The University System
The Argentine university system comprises over 130 public and private university institutions throughout the country, with over two million students.
These institutions may be universities, if they offer multidisciplinary education, or university institutes, if they focus on a single disciplinary field. Argentina’s universities are autonomous, so they make their own decisions as to their governing bodies, bylaws and budget management procedures.
They also have decision-making power over academic issues, courses of study, research plans, admission, student retention and graduation, etc.
University institutions grant postsecondary degrees (technical), undergraduate degrees (bachelor’s degrees, degrees in law or medicine, etc.) and post-graduate degrees, such as specializations, master’s degrees and doctorates.
